I want to run full color photographs in my publication. How should I scan them?
As a general rule, the most acceptable way to scan or create images for output
is to scan them at twice the output resolution of the imaging device. If the file output will be 100 lines per inch, scan the artwork
at 200 dots per inch. This is true for grayscale as well as color images.
Also, remember that our presses are CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black). After
you have made all the necessary adjustments to your scan, be sure the final image is
saved as an EPS or TIFF file in CMYK mode.
What should I include with my electronic files?
Please include screen and printer fonts versions for all fonts used.
We can only accept Postscript fonts, not True Type (which cause outputting problems when
used on high-end imagesetters). Also, include all document images. (Many design
programs, such as Quark XPress and Adobe Pagemaker, have a "collect for
output" feature that will do compile a complete list of images for you.) Finally,
always include a hard-copy proof of the job for our screen to hard-copy comparisions.
How can I submit my file to Valley Web Printing?
We can accept files in the following mediums:
- Zip disks (100 MB or 250MB
- Super Disk (120 MB)
- Syquest 135 MB
- 230 MB (EZ and EZ Flyer)
- Jaz disks (1 GB or 2 GB)
- CD-ROM
It's generally more efficient to sent files on disk. Although we can accept large
files quickly via our T-1 line, please keep in mind that it may take a long time to
send large files if your computer has a slower internet connection. Email is, however, a
great way to send smaller items, like missing fonts or images.
What software is avalable at Valley Web Printing?
We use the most current versions of all of the following graphics programs:
- Quark XPress
- Adobe PageMaker
- Multi-Ad Creator
- Creator 2
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe In-Design
- Acrobat Distiller
- Appleworks
Is Valley Web Printing Mac or PC based?
We are primarily a Macintosh environment, however, we can usually
accomodate PC jobs successfully as well. Since PC jobs often present special challenges,
we will work closely with you to ensure a successful output.
